Emma J. Barff is a litigator and construction lawyer who offers clients efficient and proven advocacy strategies to resolve construction legal disputes.
Emma joined Sportschuetz & Company as litigation associate in June 2025. Emma advises clients across all stages of construction projects, with a focus on dispute resoluton, builders lien claims, and litigation involving delay, deficiency, and payment issues. Emma represents owners, contractors, and subcontractors in both the Supreme Court and Provincial Court of British Columbia, as well as in alternative dispute resolution forums.
Originally from the Gold Coast, Australia, Emma moved to Vancouver in 2017 and gained valuable experience as a paralegal while completing her accreditation through the National Committee on Accreditation. For six years prior to joining Sportschuetz & Company, Emma worked at a large downtown Vancouver firm specializing in general and construction litigation. There, she gained experience assisting with complex commercial disputes and multi-party construction claims, developing skills in legal analysis, court procedure, and advocacy. Emma developed a litigation-focused practice, working closely with senior counsel on complex construction disputes and appearing in court on behalf of her clients. She is known for her client-centred approach, clear communication, and pragmatic legal advice.
Outside of the office, Emma leads an active lifestyle. She enjoys the gym, hiking, skiing, team sports, live music, travelling, and exploring Vancouver’s vibrant food scene.
